About

A marketing firm that came out of the trades, not an agency.

Marketing & Technology was started by someone who ran the campaigns, built the CRM, sat with the call centre and owned the numbers — in construction and home improvement, not in theory.

What does Marketing & Technology do?

MAT builds and runs the systems that generate and close leads for service businesses: the website, the advertising, the search visibility, the CRM and the automation, plus the phones and infrastructure underneath. One firm owns the whole path from first click to booked job, and reports on what that job cost.

The company exists because of a gap that is obvious once you have worked both sides of it. Marketing agencies understand campaigns but not the technology a lead travels through. IT firms understand the technology but have no view of what a lead is worth. The result, in most service businesses, is a well-run ad account feeding a follow-up process nobody owns — and nobody is accountable for the join.

MAT is built to own that join. It is also why the technology services are still here rather than being quietly dropped: a phone system that misroutes calls is a marketing problem, and a workspace where three people keep the customer list in three spreadsheets is a sales problem.

The founder

Mathew Brown

"I founded Marketing & Technology after a straightforward realisation: I am good at solving business problems — particularly where technology, marketing and the numbers meet. I had done it inside businesses. It was time to do it for more of them."

Over a decade around plumbing, HVAC, electrical, roofing, flooring, renovations and painting, including working behind the tools on projects. The turning point was helping a company triple its revenue over three years — supporting the call centre, building the CRM and communications technology, and scaling the marketing at the same time. Those three things were not separate projects. That was the lesson.

Since then: a $400K per month marketing budget, campaigns across more than ten platforms, and a business held at 15% cost of net sales while consistently generating 1,200+ leads a month in small markets.

How we work

Four things that decide how the work gets done

Not values in the poster sense. These are the four things that actually change what we do on a Tuesday.

  • Resourcefulness

Working with what is in front of us before proposing something new. Most businesses already pay for tools that would solve the problem if they were configured properly, and the cheapest fix is usually the one that does not appear on an invoice.

  • Persistence

Campaigns rarely work on the first configuration. The difference between an account that performs and one that does not is usually eight months of small corrections nobody outside the account ever sees.

  • Plain numbers

Every report leads with cost per lead, cost per issued appointment and cost of net sales. If a number is bad we put it at the top, because a report you have to interrogate is not a report.

  • Balance

A family-run firm that deliberately keeps a small client list. Fewer clients, each of whom gets the person who sold them the work. It is the reason we turn engagements down.

What clients have said

Our experience with MAT was over the top in exceeding our expectations! MAT listened to our needs and produced an excellent website on time for a very reasonable price. We highly recommend this company.

We were given potential new approaches to sell our company during our relationship with Marketing & Technology. Today, we recognise that the digital realm is a critical instrument for our business to maintain its competitive position in an increasingly competitive sector.

Two testimonials, both real, both attributed. We would rather show two we can stand behind than a wall of unattributed quotes. The numbers behind the work are here.

Where we're going

A short client list, deliberately

The plan is not to be the biggest agency in Hamilton. It is to manage a carefully chosen group of construction and home improvement companies across Canada, on long relationships, with results that can be shown as numbers rather than adjectives.

That means turning work down. It means saying when the problem is the sales process rather than the marketing budget. And it means the same person who audited your business is still on the account in year three — which is only possible if there are not fifty of them.

Every number, client name and claim is checked against source before it ships. For a firm that sells AI implementation, saying so is the only consistent position.

Questions about the company

Who is Marketing & Technology?

Marketing And Technology Inc., trading as Marketing & Technology, is a Hamilton, Ontario consultancy founded and run by Mathew Brown. It builds and operates lead generation systems for service businesses — marketing, the technology underneath it, and the automation that runs it — with a deliberate focus on construction and the trades.

How big is the team?

Small on purpose. Mathew leads strategy, the ad accounts and reporting on every engagement, working with specialists for design, development and content as each project needs them. You deal with the person who did the audit, not an account manager who inherited the file.

Why focus on contractors and the trades?

Because that is where a decade of hands-on experience sits — plumbing, HVAC, electrical, roofing, flooring, renovations and painting, including behind the tools. Knowing how a job is actually quoted and sold is a bigger advantage in this market than any marketing tactic.

Where are you based, and who do you work with?

We are at 326 East 34th Street in Hamilton, Ontario, and work across Burlington, Oakville, Grimsby, the Niagara region and the wider Golden Horseshoe, plus clients elsewhere in Canada. Most work is remote; site visits happen where they are useful.

Are your published numbers client results?

No, and we are careful about the difference. The performance figures on this site are from campaigns Mathew Brown has personally managed over his career, not outcomes MAT delivered for a client under contract. Real client work appears as named testimonials only.

What does working with you actually look like?

A written audit first, then a scope with a fixed monthly fee and a stated set of deliverables. Monthly reporting on the three numbers, a working session to decide what changes next, and access to every account and system in your own name throughout.

The easiest way to judge us is the audit.

You get a written review of your website, ads, search visibility and follow-up, with what to fix and in what order. No deck, no obligation, and it is yours whether or not we ever work together.
